Did someone decapitate my Mii?

As you can tell from the image in the "About Me" box on my blog, I have a Wii.

I have an image of me in my Wii called a Mii. That's the image in my blog. I watch my Mii playing games as I move on my Wii Fit balance board, which I use pretty much daily.

My hair has grown quite a bit since I made that Mii, so I changed the Mii to have longer hair. And now that Mii looks disturbingly like it's a decapitated head.

The scores in the Wii Fit game come up with images of my Mii beside the score, but just the head shows up, not the body. Now that I have longer hair, you can see the hair under my head. No neck or body, but hair under the chin. It looks like a body-less, ghostly head floating about.

It didn't look like that before, when the hair was shorter and none of it showed under the head. But now... it's quite disturbing.

If you can hear me... can you turn the sound system on?

Falling asleep in front of the TV can be a dangerous thing. The programs begin to blur together.

For example, if you fall asleep during an "ultimate rooms" program that is showing ultimate home entertainment rooms, specifically showing a room with a million dollar sound system that vibrates the chairs... and wake up to a ghost hunters program where people are asking "If you can hear me... can you make a noise?" the mind goes into some really weird places.

"If you can hear me... can you turn the sound system on?" is the question I heard when I woke up. I wondered who had died without telling their heirs how to turn the million dollar sound system on. That would be so annoying. Instructions should have been left... so am I having a really weird dream, or is the world going nutty?

That may have been OK as an isolated incident, but more recently I found myself not paying much attention to the TV when some monster hunters were showing the cage full of chickens they were going to leave out to tempt the monster to show itself. The ghost hunting show often has people trying to "provoke" the spirits into making a noise or moving something. The thought "Wouldn't leaving chickens in a room provoke those spirits more than moving the furniture... maybe someone should suggest it for the ghost hunters..." popped into my head.

Way too much TV. Or is that way too many ghost or monster hunting programs? Maybe I have my own ghost who is muddling my mind... that must be it.

Can a 9th century German ghost understand current English?

It's a ghoulish time this halloween, little children are all dressed up as super heros and princesses. Little adults are dressed up as bums and hookers. It's amazing how our hopes in life dive so very far in so little time.

And on TV there is a veritable avalanche of programs with people looking for ghosts and trying to get them on film or audio tape. These TV programs typically involve a group of people - some psychics, some TV show hosts, some skeptics - asking "If there's any ghost that wants to talk to us please let your presence be known." There is no real rationale behind why any ghost would want to respond to these odd people who are doing a one-time visit to disturb the dead. I'm sure they don't get any commercial funding in the afterlife for making appearances on TV programs. But it is nice to see the different castles and areas of the world, and it is fun to watch the people freak themselves out in dark, scary places.

The one thing I'm not so sure about is, do any of these ghosts understand current English? Have they been doing community-centre learning programs to learn modern English? I've just seen a TV program stalking a ghost from the 9th Century AD - a German ghost. All the people were speaking modern English. One of the psychics had a strong Scottish accent. Oddly enough, they didn't get any evidence of the ghost.

Are there many ghosts of babel fish - the ultimate universal translator that sticks in your ear and translates everything for you - and does each human ghost get one when they agree to haunt a place? If not... where do they learn their English so they can respond to the TV investigators?
